The First Law of Gyronomonics is a rare, early set of magic lecture notes published in 1988 by the legendary stage illusion designer and author Jim Steinmeyer.
Rather than a law of physics, the title is a creative name used by Steinmeyer to introduce his original principles of stage deception, routing, and prop mechanics. The notes feature several of his prominent early illusions and routines, including:
"Gyronomonics" – A signature, small tri-section illusion featured in his early lectures where a portion of an assistant's body is visibly turned end-for-end.
"Two Sided Triangle" – An elegant stage routine utilizing clever spatial perspective.
"Knot Unexpected" – A deceptive, visual rope routine.
"Black Confetti" – An exploration of the theatrical utility and subtlety of stage cleanups, later expanded into his lecture notes titled The Vicissitude of Black Confetti.
"Needles" – A classic routine also published under the title "Dangerous Cocktail" in Tony Andruzzi's New Invocation magazine.
Steinmeyer is widely regarded as one of the most prolific minds in modern magic, having designed iconic illusions for Doug Henning, David Copperfield, and Siegfried & Roy. Copies of this short, illustrated booklet are highly sought after by magic collectors and historians.
